X-Ray Vision

Joyce recommended that you all check out Pixar's new short that plays along with Toy Story 3. I found this "making of" clip that shares some of the artistic ideas that the Pixar creative team were playing with.

As you start collecting these ideas, remember to think about the art making principles that are driving the work forward. This will help to clarify the Line of Inquiry and the Guiding Questions for the study. If you compare the ideas at play in this Pixar short with the ideas at play with the make a light out of recycled materials, you will find that there are basic concepts that are important to both of these. Whether you are discussing animation or industrial design, these concepts are what you want to consider as you brainstorm — this is what makes the integrated arts concept work so fascinating. You are getting to the essence of the artistic problems, and that opens up a world of possibility for the artists to explore in all medias. This idea of giving form to light, something that is intangible — that's something that artists have explored since the beginning of time. How CAN you hold a moonbeam in your hand? What are the ways?
