Orange is any Orange on a Tree

It's all food for thought...

IDEO and Hakuhodo (I+H) collaborated with more that 100 people in a free four-day workshop at the 2009 Tokyo Design Show on a human-centered design project that demonstrated how design thinking could help solve an abstract problem — how to improve less-than-ideal eating habits. What was the key to the solution? Using color!

Palette is a holistic, color-based guide that makes healthful eating simple. Each of its seven colors corresponds to a different category of food, based on their natural pigments (light green for apples and celery, dark green for kale and broccoli, etc.). The familiar hues replace the hard-to-understand nutritional information on product boxes with an more intuitive approach to finding balance.

By the way, did you know that this week is San Francisco Design Week?

If you have a free evening tomorrow and an interest in great design, you might want to check out some of San Francisco's cutting edge design studios, including BayCat, CCS Architecture, Lunar Design, Frog Design, R/GA Media Group, Smart Design and Astro Studios.

The Open Studios will involve studios of all disciplines on Thursday, June 17th. Each studio will be open for approximately 45 minutes for viewing and visiting before everyone moves to the next scheduled location. No need to RSVP, just show up.
