Singer Diane Schuur, also known as "Deedles" and Elmo sing a jazz duet on Sesame Street.
Diane Schuur learned about jazz from her parents and their large collection of Duke Ellington and Dinah Washington records. Blind from birth, she was blessed with perfect pitch and taught herself to play piano by ear at a very early age. By the time she was a teenager, Diane had amassed her own collection of Dinah Washington records and looked to the Queen of the Blues for inspiration.
Here's a 1964 recording of Diane singing a Dinah Washington classic, "September in the Rain," at the age of 10!
Look forward to greeting Diane when she comes to San Francisco in October! Learn more about "Deedles"at www.dianeschuur.com.
